The new Gershwin tuner Nice Work If You Can Get It will receive an original Broadway cast recording distributed by Sony. The cast album will be recorded at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Long Island City, New York, on May 20 and 21 and is set for release on the Shout! Factory label. Six-time Grammy nominee Robert Sher will produce the album, with a release date to be announced shortly.
Starring two-time Tony winner Matthew Broderick and three-time Tony nominee Kelli O’Hara, Nice Work If You Can Get It is the story of Billie Bendix (O’Hara), a tough bootlegger who falls in love with rich playboy Jimmy Winter (Broderick) on the weekend of his nuptials. With a book by Joe DiPietro and direction/choreography by Kathleen Marshall, Nice Work If You Can Get It opened on April 24 at the Imperial Theatre, and earned 10 Tony nominations including Best Musical. In addition to Broderick and O’Hara, Nice Work stars Judy Kaye, Michael McGrath, Jennifer Laura Thomspon, Estelle Parsons, Robyn Hurder, Terry Beaver, Chris Sullivan and Stanley Wayne Mathis.
Nice Work If You Can Get It features a score of classic Gershwin hits, including “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Sweet and Lowdown” and “S’Wonderful.”
